FCC Toronto began in the fall of 1995 with distribution of the first issue of Orientations, our newsletter, to about 35 families. Since then, we have grown to a membership of over 300 families.
In early 2000 FCC Toronto underwent some changes due to the granting of charitable status. We are now made up of two organizations: an incorporated charitable organization (Families with Children from China Charitable Fund (FCCCF) and an unincorporated operational organization to carry out the more "social activities" (FCC Toronto).
Annual family membership for the calendar year is $25. This includes an annual membership directory and the quarterly newsletter, Orientations, which contains lots of information on adoption-related issues (with a primary focus on China). Some of our activities include a Chinese New Year's banquet, summer picnic, Autumn Moon celebration, and evenings for families-in-waiting. In conjunction with the Chinese community in Toronto other culture-related activities are being planned.
The FCC Toronto Executive is made up of the following people:
Cindy Boates, Lisa Bonner, Leslie Calhoun, Nick Foster, Ray Lewis, Scott Major, Meredith Newbigging, Melissa Ogilvie-McKinley, Mitchel Robinson, Lorne Slotnick, Colin Sutherland and Virginia Warren
